20260308 일요일. 영주중학교 서울 동창회에서 주최한 청계산 시산제에 참석했다.
Sunday. I Attended the Yeongju Middle School Seoul Alumni Association Cheonggyesan Sisanje (a ritual held on Cheonggyesan Mountain).
꽃샘 추위로 아침에 꽤나 쌀쌀한데 동창님들 40여 명이, 영주중 동문회의 2026년도 시산제(始山祭)에 참여했다. 시산제는 아마도 한국에 많은 험한 산을 오를 때 위험하니, 산악숭배 사상에서 비롯되었을 것이다. 영주 중 동창님들 단합과 건강을 기원하는 시산제는 오랜 전통이다. 올해도 첫 산행에서 산신령에게 안전한 산행과 영주 중 동창님들의 건강, 화합을 기원했다. 산에 음식을 차려 놓고 올리는 이러한 의식은, 오늘뿐만 아니라 앞으로 산행할 때마다 무사를 기원하고, 더불어 산에 대한 감사와 존경을 표했다.
총무 황채특님(27회)이 강신(신을 부름), 참신(인사)를 하고 이종은 회장님(27회)이 제일먼저 헌작(술을 올림)을 했다. 그리고 기수별로 회장님들이 또 헌작을 했다. 내가 영광스럽게도(?) 독축(축문 낭독) 즉 제문을 읽었다. 이어서 기수별로 모두 나와서 사신(인사) 등의 순서로 진행되었다. 문중의 산신제(山神祭) 또는 산제보다는 간편하나 그래도 형식을 갖추니 위엄이 서고 그럴듯하다. 고 박찬흥 회장 때부터 시산제도 좀 부드럽고 축제 분위기로 하는게 좋겠다고 해서 그렇게 해오고 있다. 옛 전통은 좀 엄숙한 제사 형태인데 오늘날은 이처럼 산에서 벌이는 작은 축제 기분이다.
시산제를 지내고 차려놓은 음복들을 나누어 먹었다. 올해는 떡, 돼지족발, 사과, 배, 오렌지, 밤, 막걸리 등 제물을 차렸다. 돼지머리 대신 돼지머리 저금통을 올려놓고 기부금을 받아서 넣었다.
Despite the chilly morning brought by the spring cold, about 40 alumni participated in the 2026 Sisanje (始山祭, a ritual) of the Yeongju Middle School Alumni Association. The Sisanje, a long-standing tradition of praying for unity and health among alumni, is a time-honored practice. This year, on the first hike, we prayed to the mountain spirits for a safe hike and for the health and harmony of our fellow Yeongju Middle School alumni. This ritual, where food is placed on the mountain and offered, not only prayed for safety on this hike but also for future hikes, expressing gratitude and respect for the mountain. I was honored to read the rite.
The general affairs manager, Hwang Chae-teuk (class of 27), gave a ganshin (calling the gods) and a chamsin (greeting), and the president, Lee Jong-eun (class of 27), first offered Jemil (alcohol). Then, the presidents of each class also offered. I was honored(?) to read the dokchuk (congratulatory address). Then, everyone from each class came out and the ceremony proceeded in the order of Sasin (greetings), etc. It is simpler than the clan's Sansinje (mountain god rite) or Sanje (mountain rite), but it still has a sense of dignity and looks good because it is formal.
Since the time of Chairman Park Chan-heung, the Sisanje ritual has been held in a more relaxed, festive atmosphere, and that's how it's done. While the old tradition was more solemn, today it feels more like a small festival held in the mountains.
After the Sisanje, we shared the prepared food and drinks. This year, we offered rice cakes, pork trotters, apples, pears, oranges, chestnuts, and makgeolli (rice wine). Instead of a pig's head, we placed a pig's head piggy bank in which donations were collected and placed.
또 기별로 특별한 안주들을 가져와서 즐겁게 맛있게 먹었다. 가장 많이 참여한(13명) 18회에서 여러 가지 음식을 해왔다. 그 중에서도 춘천지역 산에서 주어 모은 도토리로 직접 만들어 온 도토리묵 맛이 최고였다.
Each group also brought special side dishes, which we all enjoyed and savored. The 18th class, who participated the most, prepared a variety of dishes. The acorn jelly, made with acorns gathered from the mountains in the Chuncheon area, was the best.
오늘 영중 청계산 시산제에 14회 동창, 최태연, 손용호, 안희석, 김규진 모두 4명이 와서 기분 좋았다. 12회 선배님들은 5명이나 왔다 대단하시다. 모두들 올해 80순 인데 산을 내보다 더 잘 오르신다. 존경스럽다. 가을 등반 때는 우리 14회 친구들 더 많이 오길 기대해 본다.
산은 언제 올라도 기분 좋다. 특히 친구들과 이런저런 옛 이야기하면서 느긋하게 오르면 더욱 즐겁다.
2시간 정도 등산을 하고 하산하여 청계산 입구에 있는 22회 김노겸 동문이 경영하는 “소백산” 식당에서 돼지 삼겹살, 지평막거리, 영주 식 채소 겉저리, 영주 음식 배차적(배추전)이 압권이었다. 이집의 쇠고기 국밥은 어디에서도 맛볼 수없는 독툭한 음식이다. 영주 역 전에서 옛날부터 맛보던 것고 똑 같다.
올해부터 새 회장을 맡은 김종은 회장님과 사무국장 황재특(27회) 님이 아주 잘 조직하여 오늘 시산제 등반 모임이 잘 진행되었다. 감사하고 고맙기 그지없다. 다만 27회 이후 후배들이 아무도 안 와서 섭섭한 마음이다. 다음 가을 산행을 약속하고 헤어졌다. 기분 좋은 초봄의 하루를 즐겁게 보냈다. 행복하다.
모임이 끝나고 소백관 관장님과 바둑을 두판 두었다. 아주 강 일급이라 이번에는 3점 깔고 두었는데도 첫 판은 불개패 하고 둘째 판은 9집 졌다. 정말 대단한 실력이다. 한 수 제대로 배웠다. 바둑은 정말 끝이 없는 것 같다. 한 달 후인 4월 9일 바둑 좋아하는 네 명이서 만나서 다시 두기로 한다. 그날이 기대된다.
Today, four of us from the 14th class—Choi Tae-yeon, Son Yong-ho, Ahn Hee-seok, and Kim Kyuchin—came to the Yeongjung Cheonggyesan Sisanje, which was a great experience. Five alumni from the 12th class came, which was amazing. They're all in their 80s this year, and they climb mountains better than I do. I respect them. I look forward to seeing more of our 14th class friends join us for the fall hike.
Climbing a mountain is always a pleasant experience, but it's especially enjoyable when you're leisurely climbing while reminiscing with friends.
After about two hours of hiking, we descended to the "Sobaeksan" restaurant, run by Kim No-gyeom, a 22nd class alumnus, located at the entrance to Cheonggyesan. The highlight was pork belly, Jipyeong makgeolli, Yeongju-style vegetable skewers, and Yeongju specialty Baechajeok (cabbage pancakes). Newly appointed president Kim Jong-eun and secretary Hwang Jae-taek (28th class) did an excellent job organizing the event, making today's hike a success. I'm truly grateful and thankful. However, I was disappointed that no alumni showed up after the 28th class. We parted ways, promising to go hiking next fall. I enjoyed a pleasant early spring day. I'm happy.
After the meeting, I played two games of Go with the director of Sobaekgwan. This time, I played with three points, but I lost the first game by 10 points and the second by 9 points. He's truly amazing. I've learned a valuable lesson. Go seems endless. A month from now, on April 9th, the four of us who love the game will meet again to play. I'm looking forward to that day.
